Game-Based Learning for Preschoolers

Importance of Games in a Preschooler’s Life

The importance of games and playtime for your children can never be over-emphasized. The following points will highlight how games can be a learning channel.

Playtime Is Learning Time

Preschoolers have wild energy and never get fed up with playing. Much to your surprise, they can even invent novel ways of playing. You can never keep your house in order in the presence of a preschooler as it’s mostly by games that they learn.

Preschoolers Learn Social Skills by Playing

All the social skills that humans need when they grow up are learnt by the age of five, including social interactions, relationships, manners, taking turns, sharing, and the ethics of conversation. With practice, children master these skills and later lead their lives based on what they learned at a very young age.

Preschoolers Learn Problem-Solving Skills by Playing

Furthermore, the most important skills of thinking and problem solving are also learnt by kids during playtime, as they think, discuss, and devise plans to their ‘tiny’ problems. These playtime ‘problem’ situations and children’s efforts to find a solution provide a basis for the same problem-solving scenarios in adult life.

Preschoolers’ Imaginations Are Ignited by Playing

Kids can be unbelievably imaginative when they are given the opportunity to play and think on their own. Playtime ignites their imaginations, and their creativity is also unlocked during playing.

Preschoolers’ Playmates

Preschoolers love to celebrate their freedom by playing different games with different people. Sometimes they like to play alone, sometimes with their peers and siblings, and sometimes with their parents. Let them do whatever they enjoy, but guided supervision is necessary. If they don’t want to play with you (the parent), don’t force them.

Language Development

Preschoolers are at a very important stage of developing their language skills. During playtime their vocabulary is multiplied. They learn new words from their peers, siblings, and parents. They learn new sentence structures, too. Playing is very important as far as learning effective communication skills is concerned.
