The news of pregnancy is great news in most women’s lives but it also bring along certain pregnancy problems. You will try to plan for anything you can possibly imagine, but your preparation will never be enough: there will be lots of unforeseen and unpredictable circumstances with which you will have to deal during your pregnancy. In this section, we will focus on the important and common pregnancy problems that every pregnant woman has to go through.

Keep in mind that your individual body condition and particular environment may cause some unique changes in your mind and body. Some women become excited and feel very good in the first trimester, but for some women the first trimester is miserable.

General Pregnancy Problems

The following are some general pregnancy problems:

Excessive Urination:

Excessive Urination is one of the symptoms of pregnancy. Your baby puts more weight on your bladder, your kidneys have to work more than usual, and you need to wee again and again. Don’t worry; it’s normal. But if you feel a burning feeling or some other unusual sign while passing urine, you need to check with your doctor because it may be a sign of infection, which may need to be treated with medication.

Cravings During Pregnancy:

It is a commonly observed phenomenon that women have cravings for certain things.

Food Cravings:  A pregnant woman may develop cravings for certain foods that she may not usually like and alternately, may be disgusted by some of her favourite things. In Pakistan, women often crave something sour like pickles. Some women develop cravings for sweet things like chocolates or traditional Pakistani sweets.

Non-Food Cravings: You might have noticed some women even crave non-food things such as clay, laundry starch, etc. If you develop such cravings, it is an alarm that you are not well nourished and that you have a serious vitamin or mineral deficiency. If this is the case, you need to check with your doctor, and you may be advised to take certain supplements.

Emotional Health:

At times you might feel very anxious, especially if this is your first time being pregnant. Sometimes you are so tired that you feel as if you could never cope with all this.

It is very important to avoid stress during pregnancy, but living in Pakistan, avoiding stress is almost impossible:

  • Pregnancy discomfort causes its own stress.
  • You are under more pressure during your first pregnancy.
  • Untold and inexplicable stress keeps on mounting if a pregnant woman is living with in-laws.
  • You will be in stressful situations even if you are living in ideal circumstances. Load shedding, for example, is a big source of stress.

Watching news channels is very stressful because news bulletins are a constant stream of upsetting events.
