After your delivery, now you’ve the baby and you may think that you have been relieved of your discomforts. This is partially true, since you are past your pregnancy, but your real journey starts once you are back home. It is then that you will have a series of never-ending problems and discomforts. It will be better for you if you do not view these problems as big issues, but rather embrace them as part of life with a baby.

Your Life Has Changed Once Again!

Your life changed when you first conceived and had to make so many adjustments in your life style. After having a baby, your life will change even more drastically. You will never be able to do what you did in your pre-baby life however hard you may try. Therefore, it is important to accept without irritation that life will no longer be the same now that another member has been added to your family.

Your Newborn—The Dominant Person in the Family

You can be sure that your newborn will dominate your family’s life style. He or she will be the one who is going to give you a ‘silent’ mandate regarding most aspects of your daily life such as sleeping, eating, shopping, going on excursions, etc. Your baby can force you to alter your planned schedule anytime and anywhere.

Kids Are Kings

It is said that kids are just like kings because your life revolves around their needs, wishes, and demands.  They can ask you to do whatever they like and you have to do it Here are some of the ways in which your little ‘king’ won’t even let you eat or drink:

  • You didn’t sleep well last night and have been doing household chores all morning. It is almost 11 a.m., and you want a cup of tea or coffee so badly. Your baby fell asleep a while ago and now you quickly make a cup of coffee and tune in to a drama on TV. You are happy to finally have some moments of relaxation. You haven’t even taken a first sip when your baby starts crying—crying so intensely that you rush to him, forgetting about your coffee. He is hungry and you start feeding him. Your hot mug of coffee simply goes to waste because it is unappetizing to take a sip of coffee when it is almost cold.
  • You are all set to go shopping when suddenly your baby starts crying. You try to feed her, but she doesn’t stop crying. Now you will be forced to change your schedule. Once you have succeeded in calming your little girl, you will have to decide where you now have time to go.
  • You have just placed food on the table and everybody will soon be there for dinner. You are preparing everything in a hurry because you feel hungry like never before. But you realize there is something wrong with the baby. You go and check…Oh my God! You need to clean him up and change his diaper—your dinner will just have to wait.

You are happy that after so many months, you will be able to have some social interaction: you will be attending the wedding ceremony of your family friend. Everything is set, including the gift and your baby. Suddenly, your baby seems a bit restless. You try to give her ‘gripe water’ and ‘colic drops’ so that her stomach will be fine. But her restlessness is increasing, and she starts crying louder and louder. By this time you’ve forgotten all about the wedding. Your husband will come running to see what is wrong, and you will be trying different home remedies (totkas). Your husband will lay the baby stomach-down on his knee to create a gentle pressure. This will take almost an hour or so, and by the time your little one has been calmed down, your excitement will have decreased and you’ll feel a bit tired. You will go to the function out of duty.
