Pregnant Working Women and the Joint Family System
One woman, who was a professionally educated and working in a multinational company, described the miserable situation she had to go through. Her mother-in-law wouldn’t let her hire a maid. When she was finally successful in convincing her husband and mother-in-law to hire a maid, her mother-in-law managed to fire her by making a case that she was not doing anything properly and was eating food the whole time.
No Time for Communication for a Couple
A working woman shared her strange experience that she comes back in the afternoon and her husband comes back in the evening. When her husband comes back, she is busy in the kitchen and after dinner, she is deadly tired and wants to sleep;therefore, she is left with no time and energy to discuss anything with her husband. She has to call her husband while at work to discuss their issues.
Joint Family as a Support System
As far as working women are concerned, some of them acknowledge the joint family system as supportive and helpful. One lucky woman was served all her meals in her room by her sister-in-law, and her mother-in-law used to send her out with her husband for some relaxation and quality time together. She was also taken very good care of when she had nausea.
