Let’s discuss which survival skills are necessary for moms who want to experiment in business.

Survival Kit for Mompreneurs in Pakistan

Pre-Requisites for a Mompreneur

1. Self Assessment

It is important to analyse whether you have all the required skills to work in your chosen field. Only you can be an accurate judge of your potential, and you will be most successful if you explore a field that is natural to your personality and way of working. Remember, with a truthful analysis of yourself, you will have already overcome half of the problems which you may encounter along the way

2. You Have to be a Multitasker

If you are a mom and have decided to be an entrepreneur, you have also decided to be a multitasker. Not only will you have to be a business manager, you will also have to perform the tasks of a house manager, your kids’ manager, and even your husband’s manager. So get ready to multitask!  In doing all this, keep in mind that this multitasking is going to pay off. In the long run, your extraordinary efforts will be a source of solace to you on emotional, social and financial fronts.

3. You Have to Be a Courageous Fighter

You will need to be a fighter on all fronts. You might be mocked for the small scale of your business/work. You will face problems when things do not proceed the way you planned. You might be frustrated when you are not able to finish all your routine tasks. You might even think of giving up when people around you make the journey more troublesome. Keep in mind, though, that you have to be strong and fight against these odds because you are at the centre of all the planning and the business no matter how small it is.

4.Don’t Be Afraid of Others’ Negativity

Always-Stay-Positive

When you have decided to become a mompreneur, you will get unsolicited advice from the people around you. They may tell you different stories about kids who became successful because their mothers were only housewives. Similarly, you will hear stories about kids who were spoilt because their working mom didn’t pay them enough attention.

5.Listen to Others But Do What Suits You

Remember, it is necessary to listen to such ‘great’ stories, but it is not necessary to believe everything you hear or to be afraid for your kids’ futures. Your entrepreneurial skills will make you better at managing your house and kids, too.

6. Get an Investment

The most important hurdle that you will face is getting an investment, because ‘you need a dollar to earn a dollar’ (Dr. Muhhamad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank and Nobel Laureate). Therefore, getting this money should be your main focus. If you already have some money in your own account, dare to risk that in your own business. However, even if you don’t have savings, you do likely have some jewellery gifted to you on your wedding. Don’t be afraid of selling it out of a fear of failure. Take a chance on yourself, because it will be better to work for yourself than for someone else. Focus on your chances of success. You will be able to buy better jewellery and many other things once your business succeeds.

If you choose to approach investors, first sit back and think about who would stay with you even if you fail. Who are the people who would lend or invest some amount of money without irritating you with irrelevant questions? You will always find a relation or a friend (with whom you have developed a relationship throughout the years) who will entrust you with their money.
