Some Facts About Colic

  • Colic generally starts when the baby is two or three weeks old and subsides by the age of four months.
  • One baby out of four suffers from colic without any discernible cause.
  • Colic is normal—even healthy, active, well fed babies suffer from it. A colicky baby is by no mean sick or underfed, and there is no difference between him/her and a non-colicky baby.
  • In Pakistan, it is generally believed that breastfed babies do not have colic. But this is not true. A baby can have colic whether he/she is bottle fed or breastfed.
